The Young Voices had the opportunity to take part in a thrilling performance (the third time ever) of Alexander L'Estrange's fantastically uplifting new choral work ‘Zimbe'. The work is ‘a vibrant sequence of twelve African and gospel songs, charting a day in the life of an African village. There are simple children's playground songs from Ghana and Zimbabwe, a Xhosa lullaby for mothers of the victims of Apartheid, a rousing drinking song, and music used on religious occasions'.

The performance involved the Lichfield Cathedral Choristers, the Lichfield Cathedral School Girls' Choir, the Palace Singers (staff and parent choir at the Cathedral School), and the school choirs of St Chad's and Longdon. The work was accompanied by a fantastic jazz ensemble including Alexander L'Estrange himself. Perhaps the most special part of the evening was the involvement of the Great Barr School Choir who are working tirelessly for the Waterloo Schools Project and a collection was taking in aid of this cause.
